Artist Spotlight: Carla Camasso

This past holiday season saw a new artist gracing our shelves: Carla Camasso, a glassblower from Asheville, NC.  Carla grew up just down the road in Massachusetts, and inspiration from the New England coast can be seen in a lot of her work.  We fell in love with her handmade buoy and starfish ornaments, designed for the holidays but perfect for year round nautical decor.  Carla also sent us a beautiful selection of artistic vases, each one uniquely shaped and colored, that make a perfect tabletop accent piece.

Carla took the time to answer a few questions we had:

How did you get interested in glass blowing?

My first introduction to glass was 9 years ago when I took a stained glass class. Shortly after I started an apprenticeship with my teacher, Sandy Dukeshire. We made all sorts of things from stained glass windows to jewelry to blown vases. From there I went the Massachusetts College ofcarla4 Art and received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Glass.

What inspires you?
I find inspiration from nature, natural forms, and from daily life experiences and observation.

What are your other hobbies?

When I’m not blowing glass, I’m either hiking, spending time outdoors, or cooking.
